He has also taught various levels of Latin classes for NCCS and is teaching Upper School History in 2009-2010.

Mr. Van Bemmel’s passions include studying and teaching God’s Word, reading good books about history and theology, and taking camping trips with his family.  He recently added running to his lifestyle and is training for a half-marathon in early October. He and his wife, Beth, have two sons and are expecting a daughter due in November 2009. He believes that education should lead young men and women to the ability to learn for themselves for the rest of their lives, as redeemed and obedient image-bearers. Each person should discover his or her own unique set of gifts and abilities to learn to use them to please God and build Christ’s kingdom for the rest of their lives. He is committed to building a strong community of families at New Covenant, focused on working together to train up the next generation to serve God effectively with their whole lives.

Grammar School Principal: Mrs. Jean Armstrong, M.Ed.

Mrs. Jean Armstrong began serving as principal of NCCS in our charter year (1999).  Love of teaching lured her back into the classroom where she taught both fourth and fifth grade at NCCS for several years.  2009-2010 finds her returning to her position of Grammar School Principal.  Mrs. Armstrong taught in Baltimore City Schools for 11 years after graduating from UMBC with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Psychology.  During that time she pursued a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision and earned her Advanced Professional Certificate from Md. State Dept. of Education.

Returning to the job of Principal, Mrs. Armstrong combines recent teaching experience, training as a “Curriculum Integration Specialist” and a strong desire to partner with parents as they enjoy the unique personality of each child.

Mrs. Armstrong’s passions include reading good books, spending time with her family, and mentoring parents of young children.  She believes in the importance of firm discipline and in encouraging independence.  Mrs. Armstrong loves helping NCCS staff and parents build onto the foundation established by a Biblical world-view.
