David O’Steen

Board member since 2011

David O’Steen serves as an elder on Session at New Covenant Presbyterian Church and as the Session representative to the NCCS Board of Directors. David joined the NCCS Board in 2011. He came to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in the 1980s while working for the US Army in Frankfurt, Germany. David has been a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1988, where he served as a deacon for a number of years. As an elder, David championed NCCS as a New Covenant ministry in the planning stages and helped guide its start-up in the early years. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University (1965) and a master’s degree in business administration from Dartmouth College (1972). David retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground in 2011. He and his wife, Wendy, live in Aberdeen. David was a peace Corps volunteer for two years in French-speaking Africa right after college. In his free time, David enjoys riding his road bicycle and running their two Munsterlander bird dogs in the field.

Gregory Thompson

Board member since 2005

Greg is a Harford County native and graduate of C. Milton Wright High School. He earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and now works for SURVICE Engineering Company in Belcamp, MD. As a pilot with the US Air Force Reserve, he has flown to and visited many parts of the world. Greg’s wife, Shari and their three sons Wesley, Ryan, and Andrew live in Churchville with their two rescued German Shepherd dogs. The family worships at the Bel Air Assembly of God. Through his volunteer work as a coach and teacher with the local Upward Basketball program, Greg is able to share his faith regularly with 1st – 8th grade boys and girls and their families. In 1999, Greg’s eldest son enrolled as a charter NCCS kindergartener. He and Shari have been a part of NCCS ever since. Greg has taught gym and has been the NCCS boys basketball coach. The Board benefits greatly from his skills of analysis, clear thinking, and a thorough knowledge of NCCS.

Nancy Macfarlane

Board member since 2011

Nancy Macfarlane joined the NCCS Board of Directors in December 2011. She retired from the Harford County Public School System after teaching high school art for 25 years. She taught at the middle school level in Michigan for three years prior to that. Widowed in 2009, Mrs. Macfarlane is the mother of two grown daughters and the grandmother of two children. Having earned a bachelor of science degree in art education with minors in history and science from Wayne State University in Michigan and having earned a master’s degree in curriculum development from Michigan State University, she brings to the Board valuable classroom insights. She is a longtime member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

David Thursby

Board member since 2014

David Thursby holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Tech. He has worked for over 20 years as a software engineer at Textron Systems (formerly AAI Corporation) in Hunt Valley. He and his wife Susan have one son who has been enrolled in NCCS since preschool. David and his family are members of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Jim Sterling

Board member since 2015

Jim Sterling is a Certified Financial Planner who serves as President of Sterling Wealth Services in Bel Air. Prior to becoming a financial advisor, Jim worked for six years as a civil engineer in the Baltimore area. Jim serves on the Board of Directors for Missions at Mt. Zion UMC and on the Board of Directors for Alpha’s Glory Pregnancy Resource Center in Aberdeen. He and his wife Kim have three children, two of whom attend NCCS. When he has time to read, he likes to study history, especially historical leaders and the true nature of courage and fear. He also enjoys rock climbing, adventure racing, travel, spending time with family and friends, and growing in the grace of Christ.

Jon Struble

Board member since 2015

Jonathan Struble is a Senior Associate with the Technology Business Solutions Group in RSM's Blue Bell, PA office. He is the father of three grown children and has experience with home schooling and with a local Christian School. He and his wife Christina are members of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Wendy Martin

Board member since 2017

Wendy Martin is a stay-at-home mom and has lived in Maryland all her life. She grew up in a Christian family and came to know the Lord during her high school years. She met her husband, Kelley, while attending Perry Hall United Methodist Church where Kelley’s grandfather was the pastor. They have three children. Wendy graduated from Loyola College with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and was employed by an outpatient Christian counseling center as Director of Administrative Services before becoming a stay-at-home mom. Most of her educational experience is in the public school sector. Her oldest child was homeschooled and in high school took selected courses at NCCS. She stays actively involved in each of her children’s schools. She enjoys photography and taking trips with her family. Wendy is a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Daniel Walters

Board member since 2017

Daniel Walters is a sourcing cost analyst for Lockheed Martin in Middle River, MD. Previously, he worked as a refugee resettlement project manager for World Relief in Baltimore. Daniel and his wife, Christie, are members of Living Hope Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Havre de Grace, MD, where he serves as a deacon. They live in Aberdeen with their three children, who have been students at NCCS since pre-K3. A graduate of Bryan College (Dayton, TN) and Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia, PA), Daniel believes in shaping leaders through classical education and investing in sustainable, independent institutions. He enjoys spending his leisure time with his family hiking in the woods or learning new things in museums.

Steve Schley

Board member since 2017

Steve Schley supervises work product liability claims and litigation work for Stanley Black and Decker in Towson, MD. He is a graduate of Calvert Hall College (a high school) in Towson and holds a bachelor of arts degree in business administration and marketing from Loyola College in Baltimore. He and his wife Candy have two sons enrolled in NCCS. They are members of Forest Hill Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Forest Hill, MD. In his spare time, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, reading, coaching his sons’ basketball and baseball teams, playing guitar, and following local and national sports teams.

Rosemary Poling

Board member since 2017

Rosemary Poling is originally from New Jersey and has lived in Bel Air, MD since 2003 with her husband Chris and daughters Allison and Amanda. She and her family are members of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Bel Air, MD, where she serves on a variety of committees and directs Vacation Bible School. She has volunteered as secretary and vice president of the PTA at her daughters’ school. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ and a master’s degree in special education from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA. She has over ten years’ experience as a special education teacher and currently serves as an assistant professor in the School of Education at Notre Dame University in Baltimore where she supervises student teacher interns. When not volunteering at church, working for the PTA, or traveling with her daughters as a “dance mom,” she loves to read and take dance classes.
